Italian art director, graphic and motion designer, based in Milan and working in fashion, publishing, advertising and interior design.
He trained at the Istituto d'Arte in Monza and at the Civica Scuola Arte & Messaggio in Milan. He started working in 1980, while still a student, in a small graphic design studio. He then became head of graphics at Fashion, a trade weekly for the textile and fashion industry. In 1985 he joined the monthly Donna, edited by Gisella Borioli, as assistant art director. He later became deputy art director of the Italian edition of Elle, edited by Carla Sozzani.
In 1989 he founded the studio BOX2 with Claudio Dell'Olio and Robin Derrick, working between Milan and Paris. For some twenty-five years the studio produced magazines, advertising campaigns, catalogues, monographs and visual identities for brands such as Moschino, the Max Mara group, Vogue España, the Coin group and Samsonite.
As communication shifted more and more towards digital, he turned to motion design, animating photographic images. His work includes Max Vadukul's portraits for the Gallerie d'Italia and MAXXI, a fourteen-minute film on Bhutan, the monthly promos for Interni magazine, twenty-six videos for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and work for Y's by Yohji Yamamoto.
Since the 2020s he has been using generative imaging and artificial intelligence tools. He designs and builds his own website, danielebasilico.com.
